THE FUTURE STOPS THE CITIES
This September we will be dancing in the streets. This September the cities will stop.
On 23rd September 2014 the heads of the world’s governments will be gathering in New York. Ban Ki Moon, the United Nation’s Secretary General, has called them there to try and convince them to save the future from climate change.
If world leaders don’t step up to this environmental crisis, then the science is clear: very rapidly the climate will change and us humans will be overwhelmed. Floods, droughts, hurricanes, food shortages, water shortages, melting glaciers, rising sea levels will make our future impossible to survive.
On 23rd September, as the world’s leaders meet in New York we invite you to take to the streets and dance.
We invite you to stand with The Future by drawing a circle around your eye – our symbol of resistance, connectedness, hope.
Join us as we dance – taking over city centres, reclaiming privatised spaces, turning everyone who passes into our audience, part of our dance. People will stop and will feel the importance of this moment – when politicians decide our future. And we will dance, full of the future that’s coming – the power of clean energy, real human connection and freedom from the threat of climate change.
Dance to stop the city? We’ve shown it can be done. During rush hour at London’s busiest intersection – Oxford Circus – 15 dancers chose to stop the city. And now you can choose to be part of The Future too – to join a 15,000 strong network who, this September, will make the planet stop.
There are three ways that you can join The Future on the 23rd of September
1. Paint a circle around your eye and take a selfie or a video of yourself and share it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Tumblr telling your government that you want them to protect #THEFUTURE from #climatechange.
2. On 23rd September paint a circle around your eye and wear it all day – taking photos of yourselves and people’s response – explaining that you are wearing it because you want the governments of the world to protect our future from climate change.
3. Get in touch with us now and wherever you are, we will help you organise a Stop the City Dance. You don’t have to be a professional dancers (but tell us if you are!) – you just need to be able to bring together a group of people who will dance so that their city stops.
And right now? Use your social media channels to spread this page so that all your friends and followers can begin planning what they will do to connect with The Future this September.
We are the resistance.
