THE FUTURE IS RISING: LONDON, NEW YORK, TOKYO, BERLIN, BRAZIL, SYDNEY, L.A
Today (Tuesday 23rd September) as world leaders are meeting the United Nations, New York, for the UN Climate Summit, we created moments of ‘beautiful mayhem’ in major cities around the world.
This global day of activism was called ‘The Future is Rising’.
Freerunners, dancers, yogi, acrobats, and meditators have been claiming iconic public and private spaces – forcing the cities to stop and watch their disruptions. The participants were united by our Eye symbol: a thick circle painted around the right eye to symbolise that we are watching the leaders meeting in New York and demanding that they commit to the zero-carbon future which climate scientists say must be achieved by 2050 if we are to avoid runaway climate change.
In London, World Champion Freerunner Tim “Livewire” Shieff climbed Westminster Bridge, while wee claimed public spaces throughout the city with a series of dance, yoga and meditation flash mobs under the London Eye; outside Downing Street; on the steps of the Bank of England; in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern; and in Paternoster Square outside the Stock Exchange.
We also organised beautiful protests in other key cities around the world: tea ceremony and meditation flash mobs in Tokyo, acro-yoga and free running flash-mobs in Berlin, a “Give a F*** Fun Day” in Sydney; dance flash mobs in traffic choked locations across Rio de Janeiro; and finally, a dance flashmob just outside the UN Building as the Heads of State entered the Climate Summit.
